So far, most of the kidnapping victims have been involved in the drug trade. It's easier to collect the ransom because families hesitate to get the police involved. The ransom amounts are relatively small and often fairly easy to collect. When will the kidnappers become brazen enough to go for the big fish (wealthy Americans?) The ransom demands will be huge, but collecting will be a problem. Soon, someone will think they are clever enough to pull it off. It's just a matter of time.

Nah, the next step will be against the police. Mexico was the same way, first the kidnappings, then the police killings and finally full out war against the army. Very scary down there.

I think they'll go after rich folks here, not the police. We'll probably find out too soon.

You would think but in Mexico City most of the kidnappings are the middle class in what is called insta-kidnapping where they loot your bank account via an ATM card. But most of the violence is not polictial. Very scary stuff if you can get people to do the job you will have a breakdown of society in general
